Anvers
2018 The Warrior Shiraz
The 2001 Anvers Reserve Shiraz, the inaugural release, and the 2002 Anvers Reserve Shiraz received wine show success and critical acclaim both in Australia and overseas. From vintage 2003 our Reserve Shiraz has been renamed ‘The Warrior’ and while the name and the packaging are new, the superlative quality of the Anvers Reserve Shiraz has been retained.
As Anvers prestige Cuvée, ‘The Warrior’ uses our best parcels of Shiraz selected from vintage 2018. In 2018 64% of the blend came from our Adelaide Hills vineyard, and 36% from Jo Borrett’s low yielding Langhorne Creek vineyard. These wines were matured separately for twelve months in new and one year old French oak, then a selection of the best barrels was made and the wine was blended and matured for a further six months in French oak to allow integration. The 2018 Anvers Warrior combines the elegant, spicy nuances of Adelaide Hills Shiraz with the rich, powerful flavours of Langhorne Creek.
Vibrant crimson red in colour. Ripe blackberry, pepper and lifted spice aromas from the Adelaide Hills fruit combine well with the darker fruit characters of Langhorne Creek. On the palate blackberry and mulberry fruit flavours combine with cedar and chocolate notes in a rich yet silky and elegant mouthfeel. A complex wine with both power and elegance, with velvety tannins and a long persistent finish.
